A note from our team.
The goal of this is to be a vehicle for habitual kindness in our community, to put food in people’s stomachs, and to harness the power of neighbors helping neighbors in big and small ways. The goal isn’t to get a helper’s high, isn’t to make a profit, and isn’t to make you think we are especially kind.
Your $20 sponsorship will do exactly this: give a one-time delivery of quality food to a family or individual that could feed 6.
At best, it might decrease their sense of food instability for a day or two. It might give them a warm feeling that they are cared for by the people they live beside. It might bring some relief to suffering. However, it may also make someone feel judged or confused as to why they were nominated to receive a “hand-out”, be food they don’t like and it goes to waste, or go to a family that society would otherwise deem “unworthy” of receiving this kind of generosity. The reality is that this is unlikely to produce long-term change to someone who is going through chronic difficulty, and there are organizations that do work to that end who deserve and need your twenty bucks.
Now, I do believe a confluence of small acts of kindness does transform a community, especially when that kindness is habitual. There is a butterfly effect it’s impossible to measure and change that can be deeply tangible when a thousand small acts converge. This food may not change your neighbor’s life, but will hopefully propel you and our community toward everyday acts of kindness. We hope to remove resistance on the path to kindness, and increase access to goodness in all its forms.
Consider participating, nominating someone to receive, and sending some reverberations of goodness into Mifflinburg.
We can’t do everything, but we can do something. Thank you for joining us however you can.
